Our Mission
The Hispanic Women's Network of Texas, San Antonio Chapter (HWNT-SA) aims to mentor Latinas who are either High School Senior, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral student!
Throughout their journey to equip them with the means to succeed in their personal and professional lives through the Latinas in Progress™ (LIP) Education Series.
Our History
Latinas in Progress (LIP) was founded by the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas (HWNT).
Learn the origins of how our organization came together to begin serving Latinas throughout South Central Texas.
We seek to promote the advancement of women in public, corporate, and civic life through education, personal and professional development.
Today, in alignment with its mission, LIP strives to continue empowering girls of color and advance their educational, cultural, social, legal, and economic well-being
Latinas in Progress (LIP) Scholarship
For over a decade, our Latinas in Progress program has awarded annual scholarships to high school seniors, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral students residing in San Antonio. LIP Education Series consists of learning sessions, volunteer opportunities, and mentorship.
LIP HWNTSA awarded $14,600 dollars in scholarships in 2023 and a total of more than $200,000 since 2013!

The series involves volunteer opportunities and mentorships by HWNT members. Central to the program are six learning sessions designed to enable students to:
- Learn about the college process,
- Improve on writing skills,
- Gain assertive skills,
- Understand the importance of civic engagement, and
- Learn about healthy living and important life skills.

Barbie Hernandez "Wise" Scholarship
Barbie Hernandez, a beloved community leader and education advocate in San Antonio, dedicated her life to the advancement and empowerment of women. Her legacy continues through the HWNT San Antonio's Barbie Hernandez "Wise Latina" Scholarship Fund.
