Emilie Herrera, a proud native of San Antonio's Southside, began her impactful journey at St. Joseph Catholic School and St. Francis Academy. Her path led to the University of Texas at Arlington, where she earned a degree in Human Resources, focusing on supporting disparate areas.
Over 20 years in human resources have seen Emilie excel in empathetic leadership and managing transformative changes in diverse workplaces. Alongside her husband, Joel "Tatu" Herrera, Emilie co-founded Folklores Coffee House in 2018. Joel, the visionary behind the coffee house, and Emilie have built the business with a community-first approach, emphasizing aid and support for the local community.
Emilie's adeptness extends to disaster relief, where she has been a cornerstone during hurricanes Rita, Ike, and Harvey, demonstrating exceptional skills in organizing large teams in chaotic situations. This capability was further highlighted during the COVID-19 crisis when the Herrera’s stepped up to feed over 90,000 elderly residents in low-income areas of San Antonio, showcasing their commitment to the community.
Awarded the Proclamation of Texas in 2021 for these extraordinary efforts, Emilie continues to make an indelible mark in her roles, including as Board Director of Fundraising for Poderosa Rising and Member Chair Assistant for HWNT-San Antonio Chapter.
Emilie, a graduate and Steering Committee member of the Latina Leadership Institute, inspires and guides the next generation of leaders, melding professional acumen with deep-rooted empathy.
